Vancouver, BC -- The Keg Royalties Income Fund (TSX:KEG.UN) (the "Fund") and Keg Restaurants Ltd. ("KRL") today announced sales results for the 13 and 39 week periods ended October 2, 2011.
Keg Restaurants Ltd.'s total system sales for the 13 weeks ended October 2, 2011 were $119.3 million compared to $114.0 million for the 13 weeks ended October 3, 2010, an increase of $5.3 million or 4.6%. For the 39-week period ended October 2, 2011, The Keg's total system sales were $356.1 million compared to $349.4 million for the 39-week period ended October 3, 2010, an increase of $6.7 million or 1.9%. Royalty Pool sales increased by 6.1% to $117.1 million for the quarter, and by 3.4% to $350.1 million for the nine-month period. These increased sales reflect the very successful new Keg restaurants which were added to the Royalty Pool on January 1, 2011.
The Keg's same store sales (sales of restaurants that operated during the entire period of both the current and prior years) increased by 5.2% in Canada and by 3.6% in the United States for the 13-week period ended October 2, 2011, and increased by 3.6% in Canada and by 3.5% in the United States for the 39-week period ended October 2, 2011. After translating the sales of the U.S. restaurants into their Canadian dollar equivalent, consolidated same store sales increased by 4.5% for the 13-week period and by 3.0% for the 39-week period. The average exchange rate moved from 1.04 to 0.98 in both the comparable 13-week and 39-week periods, significantly decreasing the Canadian dollar equivalent of the U.S. restaurant sales.
"The Keg has once again shown strong sales growth through another quarter in both Canada and the U.S, despite the lingering fears regarding the overall economy," said David Aisenstat, President and CEO of Keg Restaurants Ltd. "We believe it speaks to the continuing strength of The Keg and our continuing emphasis on providing exceptional dining experiences to our guests."
