Vancouver, August 10, 2005 – The Keg Royalties Income Fund (the “Fund”) today reported its second quarter financial results for the three and six months ended June 30, 2005. Gross sales and same store sales reported by Keg restaurants, royalty income, earnings and distributable cash all increased from the comparable quarter of the prior year.
Gross sales reported by Keg restaurants in the Royalty Pool increased by $7,342,000 or 10.2% to $79,433,000 during the quarter and by $12,641,000 or 8.5% to $160,623,000 year to date. The increase in gross sales reflects the net impact of the addition of net new sales to the Royalty Pool at the beginning of the year and an increase in same store sales. For the 13 and 26-week periods ended June 30, 2005, Keg Restaurants Ltd. had same store sales increases of 3.7% and 3.1% respectively, in spite of the continuing negative of the exchange rate between the Canadian and U.S. dollars on the translation of the U.S. sales into their Canadian dollar equivalent.
Royalty income increased by $293,000 or 10.0% to $3,209,000 for the quarter and by $510,000 or 8.6% to $6,462,000 year to date, as a result of the increase in gross sales.
Earnings increased by 3.5% to 27.6 cents/Fund unit from 26.7 cents/Fund unit during the quarter, and by 2.4% to 55.7 cents/Fund unit from 54.3 cents/Fund unit year to date. Distributable cash available to pay distributions to Fund unitholders increased by 2.5% to 27.7 cents/Fund unit from 27.0 cents/Fund unit for the quarter, and by 1.4% to 55.8 cent/Fund unit from 55.0 cents/Fund unit year to date.
“We are extremely pleased with the performance of the Fund, particularly the growth in earnings and the increase in distributable cash,” said C.C. Woodward, Chairman of the Fund. The Fund declared distributions of 27.0 cents/Fund unit in the quarter and 45.0 cents/Fund unit year to date. The Fund has consistently met its distribution target, and has paid out 9.0 cents/Fund unit per month every month since its inception in May 2002.
